FOUNDATIONS

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a compulsion to write and an inclination to take the road less traveled. After graduating from the University of Georgia with a B.A. in English and Creative Writing, I went against my intuition and followed a conventional career path. Like many graduates in the arts, I ventured into the job market with the mindset that my degree wouldn’t translate into a career.

Instead, I relied on my strengths and experience to land a job at an early-stage startup where I wore many hats and had a chance to contribute some content to the company’s website and blog. This opportunity reinforeced my passion for writing, so I decided to make a change. I left my secure job at the thriving startup and began my journey as a freelance writer.

FREELANCE EXPERIENCE

I started my writing career with clients in a range of lifestyle industries, including fashion, food, fitness, entertainment, and beauty. Among those, one particular client stuck out – one particular industry really caught my attention – the watch industry.

One of my first clients was a young company who purchased, refurbished, and resold watches. As that company’s business and blog grew, my byline got more attention, and I started writing for other watch outlets. By 2018, nearly 70% of my client base was in the watch industry, and my infatuation with timepieces was growing deeper and deeper.

IN-HOUSE EXPERIENCE

Then came 2020, a year that turned our world upside down, to put it mildly. Everything changed, and an unexpected opportunity came my way: a full-time role at HODINKEE, the most influential publication in the watch industry. So, I made the challenging yet exciting decision to take the leap back to an in-house role.

CREATIVE WRITING EXPERIENCE

After eight months with HODINKEE, I decided it was time for another change. I left my position in the summer of 2021 and set out to pursue a creative writing project I began working on back in 2018. I got accepted into a 1-1 mentorship program with the author Yrsa Daley-Ward and started bringing my first book to life. By the summer of 2022, the first draft of my manuscript was complete, and I was accepted to a residency in Paris under authors Chloe Caldwell, Marie-Helene Bertino, and Sandra Lim.

THE NEXT CHAPTER

With a year to focus on my creative writing and reflect on my career to date, I gained a sense of clarity and renewed enthusiasm for my work. I'm currently open to freelance opportunities and can't wait to expand my horizons beyond the watch industry.
